Elementary Level ( Nursery & K.G. )
Elementary Level is the very first step of a Maxfortian’s school life. So, it’s important to help children get comfortable in an environment other than their home. Experts believe that 2-4 years of age is the appropriate time for a child to learn about perception, creativity, logical-thinking, counting, language-skills, social-interaction and good-behaviour. This is why MaxPower Curriculum provides for a number of enriching experiences encompassing story-telling, role-play, counting games, group activities, art, music, field excursions, puppet shows and sports. A thematic approach is followed where several activities are integrated around a central theme to make learning more meaningful and relevant.
Junior Level ( Classes 1 - 5 )
At this stage, great emphasis is laid for Maxfortians to become accustomed to formal classroom learning. This is important, as children must be ready for greater and more abstract academic challenges in senior classes. Towards this end, various activities are organized such as quizzes, field excursions, project work, role-plays, pretend plays, assembly presentations and group discussions. Greater focus is also laid on formal learning of languages, Mathematics and Environmental Sciences
Middle Level (classes 6 – 8)
Now come the challenges of adolescence. At this stage, students undergo dramatic physical and emotional changes. Simultaneously, they’re expected to fit-in well with the societal norms by becoming effective communicators and responsible individuals. To guide Maxfortians through this difficult stage, the facilitators at Maxfort help them to become active thinkers and confident learners. Activities such as conferences, field trips, counselling sessions, and personality development workshops promote self-awareness and understanding.
Senior Level ( Classes 9 - 12 )
At this stage, preparing for the competitive examinations takes precedence, along with active social and co-curricular participation. A detailed timetable for completion of project work and preparation for class assessments and term examinations is put into effect. Simultaneously, Maxfortians are encouraged to identify interests and aptitudes to make informed choices about their future educational and vocational plans.
To empower Maxfortians in all aspects, it is important to gain a scientific understanding of how children learn and develop. Just like children have different needs for food and clothing at different ages, their learning needs also differ at various stages of growth. This is why the MaxPower Curriculum is segregated into various levels. Each of the levels empowers a Maxfortians through its own set of objectives, syllabi and curriculum.
Every child is unique Children are bundles of joy, often impatient, but eager to learn and keen to impress. Yet, each of them is unique. Just as they walk and talk at different times, children learn to read, write and use mathematical skills at different times. Instead of making comparisons, it always helps to make them feel confident about their own strengths. But it's easier said than done. It needs a different approach to teaching, and a different mindset of instructors. We believe, to allow a child to freely explore his world, we must first attempt to be free in our own minds, to get rid of our own biases and prejudices.
Facilitators not teachers It’s common knowledge that teachers teach the way they were taught. Reason enough for us at Maxfort to hire some of the finest teachers, and train them to unlearn whatever they know about teaching. In essence, ‘Nurture the Nurturer’. This is achieved through regular in-service workshops and support programmes. Once they are ready, the instructors become open-minded, sensitive and flexible to the needs of every Maxfortians, and are able to provide an explorative, non-threatening, non-critical and non-judgmental environment for a child to truly blossom. In short, no teachers, only facilitators in the path to discovery and learning.
Learning through exploration not imposition When you open a child’s mind to exploration, it can produce amazing results. Let’s take an example to illustrate this point. Suppose a child points to a pencil and asks, “What is this?” You could choose to give a definitive answer - “It’s a pencil. It is used for writing.” But suppose you were to open up the answer as an explorative challenge - “This is called a pencil. Some people use it to write. But why don’t you spend a day playing with it and see what other uses you can come up with!” Believe us, even you’ll be surprised with the results. (One child came up with sixteen ideas!)
Success is an attitude not merely an aptitude Research has shown that top-notch academic background, intelligence and hard work are not the only pre-requisites for a successful life and career. Surprised? However, it’s true. What you also need is to be open-minded, emotionally stable, relate to others and cultivate disciplined habits of the mind. In other words, to be truly successful, the right attitude is as important as academic brilliance. Which is why from the very inception, our approach is to empower Maxfortiansin every aspect: mental, physical, emotional and social; through MaxPower curriculum.
Questions drive learning , not answers Why are roses red? Why do birds fly? Why are sweets sweet? Why is water wet? Why...? Why...? The curious mind of a child is a happy cauldron of questions driven by this simple yet profound word, 'why?' Unfortunately, most people take the easy way out when faced with such innocent curiosity. They either strive to answer the questions, based on their own notions and knowledge, or, simply shun the child for lack of time and patience.
Thematic approach The attention span of young children is very small. So they need continuous brain stimulation to keep them focused. This is why MaxPower Curriculum provides for a thematic approach to learning. Under this tool, a theme is chosen for a fortnight/week considering the interest and desired levels of learning. The facilitators at Maxfort compile all the activities revolving around this central theme and follow curriculum integration as a process for developing abilities required to succeed in life. Maxfortians learn the necessary skills and concepts through consistent guidance, activities and play. This unique combination of learning and teaching makes children happy learners and encourages them to grow creatively, intellectually, socially, emotionally and physically.
